CITY HALL
RAWSON

RAWSON CHUBUT

To create Rawson City Hall two initial decisions were made: on one hand, to project an agora as public space according to the functions of the building and, on the other hand, to give to the constructed volume an institutional scale. To this end, the program was decomposed into three parts. The City Hall was located on the southern edge of the land, taking maximum height allowed to cut in the current and future skyline. This part of the building was projected as a volume full of light that allows, from all its rooms, the view towards the river. In addition, the double bay floor opens in the center to house a large longitudinal void with a huge central skylight, through which all horizontal and vertical circulations run.

The second part of the program included the courts, which were projected as an outstretched volume of two floors that define the west edge of the land, protecting the public square from the prevailing winds. Finally, the building that houses the City Council was solved in a single elevated floor, forming an access porch to the complex, with four Vierendeel beams that save more than 50 meters of light.
